Support for culinary businesses in Dumfries and Galloway

£500,000 fund available to support culinary businesses in D&G

The European Maritime and Fisheries Fund (EMFF) has awarded Dumfries and Galloway £580,000 to invest in supporting the region’s inshore fishing industry. This Fund provides a unique opportunity to initiatives which aim to increase the sale of locally caught or landed seafood.

Dumfries and Galloway has a rich shellfish industry consisting of a supply of locally caught; crabs, lobsters, oysters, whelks, periwinkles, shrimps and locally processed; scallops, prawns and shrimps. However a recent report into the future of inshore fisheries has suggested that local culinary outlets could do more to celebrate local seafood products.

Funds are not limited to the following projects, although these may be of interest to the local culinary industry;

Funding is not limited to single business expansion projects and can also be accessed for projects which;

Funds can be accessed by submitting an application to the region’s Fisheries Local Action Group (FLAG). The FLAG is made up of a combination of representatives who work within the fishing industry in Dumfries & Galloway and will consider potential projects for funding.

Under the EMFF programme, applicants can access funding for up to 50% of the total cost of their project. This money is a grant and not a loan, therefore it does not need to be repaid.

Please note that funding is not provided in retrospect of grant being awarded, meaning project spend must not start until an offer of grant letter has been received.
