Region to have its day - Be part of it!Day of the Region is happening again this year in Dumfries & Galloway! This exciting initiative is supported by D&G LEADER programme and is part of a bigger European community project, being delivered in a similar format in other countries across Europe including the Netherlands, Germany, Poland, Austria, Finland and Ireland.
Dumfries and Galloway LEADER Programme are delighted to announce the 2012 participating locations for Day of the Region 2012; Castle Douglas, Crocketford, Dalbeattie, Kirkconnel & Kelloholm, Moniaive and Sanquhar who are now developing a full and active programme of activity which will promote the many community groups and organisations as well as the interest and skills of individuals who live in and around these locations with a view to increasing well-being across the region. Already, local volunteer co-ordinators are planning a variety of activities and events which will be delivered as part of the Day of the Region celebration here in Dumfries and Galloway on Saturday 6th and Sunday 7th October 2012, including; ceilidh dancing, arts and crafts sessions, food and drink, film shows, guided walks, cycle routes, heritage trails, concerts, mini tattoos, youth group promotions, special franking from the oldest post office in the world, community calendars, dog training, folk music, DJ sets, flower shows, comic book art, 18th century manners workshops, fishing skills, sheep dog displays, dance lessons, zumba, holistic therapies, camera lessons, family photographs, comedy night, drama workshops ........and even belly dancing! Organisers are keen to ensure that there is something for all ages, abilities and interests and encourage you to get involved and be part of it. New features include a Day of the Region Geocaching trail which is a digital treasure hunt to encourage us to explore 'hidden treasures' in local communities, a primary school postcard competition and a secondary school design competition for the official events programme.
